Warm-Ups

Week 1

1. List two things that you are interested in and something you did over the summer.

2. What do you know about mythology already? If you don't know anything, what do you think about usually when you hear the word myth?

3. List two or more allusions to mythology in popular culture.

4. What is the main thing a myth does?  List two examples of how a myth does this.

Week 2

1. What are types of characters you tend to see in different stories?

2. What makes a good hero?  What types of heroes do we have in our society?

Week 3

1. List any important/famous wars you know and what you know about them.  Is there anything in common between them?  What positive and negative things do people usually talk about when they talk about war?

2. Write about a movie or story that you know that starts in the middle of the story or later.  Thank about movies that begin with some action scene or death and then flashback to explain how the story comes to that point.

3. What is a long journey you have been on OR would like to go on?  Minimum 5-6 sentences

4. What are some differences between reading a book and watching a movie based off a book? What kind of changes have to be made and is it the same story?  Explain.

Week 4

Week 5

1. Describe in a paragraph what it means to "be home." What sorts of feelings do you associate with being home?

4. In a paragraph, explain how you would have dealt with the suitors if you were Penelope or Odysseus.
