Student Short Stories

The New World Order

It was June 7, 2092 when my whole life changed, before being separated my mother and I lived in the suburbs of Atlanta. President elect Ronald Smith was going to become our first president who was an artificial human. He was created by a Russian scientist but no one ever knew he was, what everyone knew is just that he controlled Ronald Smith. America thought that it would be good to have a first artificial human but everything turned for the worst. Once Ronald Smith was got into office he basically changed everything the first thing. All employees were switched from humans to robots.

A couple years after he was elected he planned to take over the world by power he willing to do anything necessary, even if it means killing innocent people. He wanted all 7 continents under his rule, he generated over 8 million robots for war that year. He did exactly what he planned first he took over developing countries and gain the citizens trust just like he did with us. After he went through all the countries and last he had Russia the war lasted for about 5 years they nearly killed almost every citizen of their whole entire country. He dropped a bomb almost 75 times more explosive than the atomic bomb.

After the long war, Smith told every that we would all be taken a test he said don’t worry if we don’t do well but try our best. But around this time I was 16 so I knew it was for population control. Then he divided the whole world into 3 groups lower, middle, and upper class. My mom and I was sent to the lower class right after that and then we had our test. That day I was nervous they called us by number I was in line with my mother then we were all separated by age group it took everyone about. The test was held in a big arena downtown, the test took about three hours an after that we were all release to go home.

A couple months later it was a normal day which would all change when the Robocop’s came busting through the door looking for my mother. Then dragged her out the house leaving me abandoned. clueless of where she was sent off too I was determined to get her back. But I knew I would first have to go through Smith “our ruler”. For months, from sun up to sun down, I tried to gain information about our unknown government secrets, plans, and everything about them. Getting the books that contained that information wasn’t easy since they only put books with the information they provided to us. The first part of my plan was completed I first had to contain information, then everything else would fall into place. The people who failed were basically sent to these concentration camps and were being killed. So, I had to hurry and get a group together to sneak into the camp and free everyone.

While I was angry trying to get a group together an old homeless man who was a retired scientist named Buford, came knocking on my door. He told me not to do it if I waited we would get better outcomes and that he could help me. Because he used to work for president Smith and he was a good hacker.  So, I agreed to work with him months flew by fast not really expecting it to. I thought it would seem like it would take forever not being with my mom. But the only thing I had on my mind was defeating smith and getting her back.

The day finally came I we woke up at 5 in the morning Bufford was going to hack the fossil fuels factory which powered all the robots so which would give me and a couple of friends enough time to sneak inside and rescue everyone. We got the job done in about 30 minutes but I couldn’t find my mom I saw her body halfway buried under some dirt. I went ballistics, that made me want to destroy smith his system 10 times more. When me and Bufford told, reunited I told him about what I saw and he told me the guy who control smith. All about him that they used to work together and how they were friends. He knew where the guy life so my job was to get there and kill him and everything would be over. He lived on a remote island to stay away from the public. I gathered the best weapon I could find I took me three days to get to his house. I gathered the best men I could find it wasn’t easy when I arrived the island was wonderful palm trees getting brushed away by the wind, a big mansion you could see 80 miles away, the smell of the sea, and the taste of the wind. My boat crashed against the shore and nerves hit me through my whole body felt like my hearth dropped to my toes. Security was everywhere I got Bufford to shut down all his Robocop I sneak in and pulled out my revolver and shoot him in the back of the head.

After that day, Smith was out of office and everything returned back to normal. All countries became independent and classes were destroyed. That is my story about how I destroyed a dystopia in the world.

Land of the Not Free

In our world a “human” is a foreign word and Is seldom used in the place we call home.
Names are replaced with numbers, one following the other. A man is deemed machine, told to follow the injustice rules made by the “people of higher authority”. I have been this way since I was born, the only day that I ever knew how freedom felt, even if I was only an infant, I still wished I could relive the day every second that I am breathing in this place. The day after I was born I was taken from my mother, I imagine how she may have cried and wanted for me to stay with her, only knowing that there was no way in the whole world that I could ever remain in her arms. I dream about the day, the one and only day of my life that I was free. I imagine me smiling, even though I know that babies come out the womb crying their little hearts out. The smile was so bright is bought life to the whole darkened city of Noiia. The smile brought the sun from beneath the clouds and it shined into every window of every home in the sad, sad city. Only day dreaming and wishing for a better life is when I am happy.

Once more I was scared out of my skin when my best friend, 89036 (or Marley, what I
called him when no one was around to hear or tell of the way we disrespect the “people of
higher authority”). “why you all the time lookin’ like that” he whispered close to my ear, rather dumbly due to our inability to receive education, I myself had a desent amout of natural smarts but for him, there was almost nothing there. Probubly the only thing he had to offer was a good hear of hair, it was curly and nice. His hot breath hit my neck making me hot due to it being an unreasonably hot summer day, and also being that we could only wear black clothing at all times of the day. He wore a wrinkely black shirt and black shorts. I lightly pushed his chest, then cautiously looking around to make sure no one seen me touch him. “Move” I simply said becoming frustrated because he interrupted my brief vision of me happy, I was learning in a school with a whole lot of educated people. I loved my best friend dearly, but he showed no want to learn, and that made me not feel interested in the conversations we have. “Why you so mean, you ain’t the only body in this place dat ‘ont wanna be here” he blew out a breath and looked to his right, then left before taking a seat on the cracked concrete and leaned on the broken, abandoned building next to me. Though the place seems abandoned, I know my city far too well to eliminate the option of a family or two living in the darkness of the old red brick warehouse. I nodded and looked to see a small bus rolling up the street. There were 21 buses that constantly roll around their assigned blocks all day until after curfew. They look for subjects that are not doing what they are supposed to. I roughly nudged Marley rising from my spot on the ground and swiftly eased my way into the alley that was next to the building. Marley followed slowly behind me trying to see what I was moving so fast for, he had yet to see the bus that slowly rolled up the hill. He peeped around the corner, still unaware of why I had abruptly told him to get up from the place that we sat at for only a good 5 minutes. Once he’d finally seen it he rushed back and hid behind me in the back corner of the alley. The bus rolled past the opening slowly. The person that hung from the back like a garbage man, scoped back and forth looking for anyone out of place, such as a child without an adult.. The man looked down the alley. I closed my eyes and prayed he didn’t see me and my friend. Waiting for the sound of the bus to fade I kept my eyes shut, when I still heard the bus I opened my eyes. The pale caucasion man walked down the alley where Marley and I were hiding. He walked rather slowly, almost in slow motion, Marley tightened up behind me, probably in general fear not that the man was walking towards us because like I said, his mind processes things slower than others. The slender man got closer by the second. My body clenched when he paused in the middle of the alley, looking my way he stared into my chocolate eyes with his crystal blue ones then swiftly turning on his heels walking in the opposite direction, hopping on the bus, banging his fist into the back of the vehicle and in an instant the bus began moving once again. I let out a loud breath and began to walk away from in front of Marley only for him to pull me back “He gone?” Marley question. I looked at him to see him with i eyes sealed shut so tight you would think someone was trying to poke them out. “Open your eyes and come, they’re gone” I spoke walking out of the alley. He opened his deep brown chunky eyes and started walking. I kicked my black sneakers against the dirt that lingered on the pavement, the sun beamed down on my dark skin as I looked back to see Marley trailing behind me. “hurry up,” I whisper-yelled. When he caught up to me I continued talking, “I think we should head home,” I suggested, looking at the face Marley made I could tell he was disappointed “and don’t look like that, I know you didn’t catch it but that man seen me, he seen us and if we continue to stay out and not be with our assigned guardians we will be in Fenal Heights with Jonny” I sternly spoke to him, putting the image of our other friend, being taken to the place where they put bad kids, into his head. Marleys face softened and he slowly began walking again. He knew that children that went to Fenal Heights never came back, even if they were only sentenced to a small amount of time. Rumor was that they killed the kids, and there was no one to contridect the theory though because like I said no kid ever came back. “Alright” he mumbled walking past me and in the direction of our boarding homes. I prayed he listened and went home and stayed home, he had a history of wandering, thankfully I was always there to catch him before they did.

When we got to our boarging homes I waved bye to Marley and prepared to lay in the
middle of the bedroom that I shared with six other children and daydream about a better
tomorrow. At bedtime, exactly 1 hour after curfew, I heard a bus roll past the window that was above the palet I slept on. I was happy that me nor Marley were that ones that were being taken. I peaked out of the window just to see who was the one that would be going to Fenal Heights tonight. A tall white man pushed a kid that was a little bit shorter than him towards the bus. All the other kids piled near me to see the show, this was their favorite entertainment. From the looks of it he either hadn’t made it that far or he was on his way home and was almost there but was caught. The boy was brown, fair clean skin, a rough head of hair just like all the kids in the neighborhood, but it was still nice hair none the less, deep brown chunky eyes, and he wore a wrinkely black t-shirt on his back and black shorts on his skinny legs. That kid looked just like my best friend. I took another look out the window, I made eye contact with the boy and my heart jumped out of my chest, it felt like someone literally pulled me to them and ripped my soul from my body. That kid was the person I would vent to, share my darkest secrets with like how I would stay up past curfew and what i would near when i did ever since I learned how to talk. The one that got me into so much trouble, the one that never understood what I said but was always there, and i loved him like no other for that. That kid was my bestfriend .
